Hong Kong’s first-ever Mobile Payment for Minibus
AlipayHK officially collaborates with green minibus routes number 8 and 8x
(28 Jan, 2019 – Hong Kong) To facilitate daily life for Hong Kong citizens, AlipayHK has branched out into many aspects of everyday functionality and living for improved convenience. AlipayHK has now taken a step forward in Smart Mobility, a key component of Smart City development. Following an agreement with two major minibus operators and the MTR, AlipayHK and AMS Public Transport Holdings Limited announce the launch of Hong Kong’s first-ever mobile payment method for minibus. From now on, AlipayHK users can pay minibus fares through the e-wallet and experience the advancement and ease promised by Smart Mobility.
AlipayHK has reached an agreement with AMS Public Transport Holdings Limited in October to jointly promote smart mobility. In the initial stage, EasyGo supports green minibus routes number 8 and 8x, which run between Baguio Villas (Lower) and Central (Exchange Square). The scheme will be piloted across other minibus routes at a later stage.
EasyGo is a QR Code payment solution for transportation developed by AlipayHK, which is capable of completing a payment process in 0.3 seconds and is the first to adopt both dual offline solution and a Travel-then-Pay scheme. Therefore, users can still pay with the e-wallet even when network is unstable or balance is insufficient.
Ms. Jennifer Tan, CEO of Alipay Payment Services (HK) Limited (APSHK) expressed, “The operation of 8 and 8X marks an important practice for EasyGo technology. We hope to introduce QR code payment more widely into public transportation, so there is another fast and convenient payment option for the public. Local transportation is an important part of Hong Kong people's daily lives and it is also one of the key expansion scenarios this year. We expect to support other traffic scenes as soon as possible.”
Mr. Vincent Wong, Chairman of AMS Public Transport Holdings Limited, said, “It is our pleasure to work with AlipayHK and be Hong Kong’s first-ever public transport service facilitating EasyGo payments. Through pre-launching test and inspection, we are confident of EasyGo’s efficiency and safety, and deem that EasyGo will become the prominent future trend in transport. Our service operates very much in cultural alignment with AlipayHK’s Smart Living development philosophy, and we hope to bring an innovative travel experience to Hong Kong citizens by introducing new technology wherever possible.”
